Dress Code

General Standards of Appearance

  • Modesty and Coverage: Clothing must provide adequate coverage. Tops should meet the waistline (no exposed midriffs) and have appropriate necklines. Shorts, skirts, and dresses are generally expected to be of a "modest length," often defined as reaching at least mid-thigh.

  • Prohibited Messaging: Clothing may not display language or imagery related to drugs, alcohol, tobacco, violence, or profanity. Any content that is deemed suggestive, demeaning, or disruptive to the learning environment is prohibited.

  • Headwear: Hats, caps, and hoods are typically not permitted to be worn inside school buildings during the instructional day to ensure clear visibility and engagement.

  • Footwear: For safety reasons, students must wear appropriate footwear at all times. Closed-toe shoes are highly encouraged, and non-marking athletic shoes are required for participation in physical education.

Why it Matters at Trout Creek

At Trout Creek School, the dress code is more than just a set of rules; it reflects the school's mission to prepare students for a diverse and changing society.

  • Professionalism: Dressing appropriately helps students transition into a "work mindset," treating their education with the same respect they would a future career.

  • Safety in Innovation: With high-tech tools like the Glowforge and various mobile devices in use, practical clothing ensures that students can participate in hands-on projects safely and without restriction.

  • Responsibility: The school views personal grooming as a shared responsibility between home and school, fostering a community of mutual respect.

Note: The school administration typically has the final authority to determine the appropriateness of any student’s attire. If a student's dress is found to be in violation, they may be asked to change or contact a parent for suitable clothing.
