Member Responsibilities

President - 7th or 8th Grade Student

As the leader of the Student Council, the president is responsible for announcing meetings, preparing the meeting room, having the necessary papers/supplies at each meeting, and conducting the meeting. Both presidents will work together to achieve these goals, the president presiding over planning the meeting. She or he must prepare an agenda on Monday mornings with the assistance of a supervisor, call the meeting to order and follow the agenda, lead the discussion, refrain from taking part in the discussion, be able to explain and summarize the discussion for others, vote only when there is a tie, count votes, and announce vote results to the Student Council. The president also serves as spokesperson for the school and the Council.

Vice President - 7th or 8th Grade Student

The vice president serves as the president’s chief assistant and must therefore know the president’s job thoroughly and be able to replace him or her in case of absence. The vice president also coordinates various Student Council committees. 

Secretary – 5th-8th grade Student

The secretary is responsible for keeping the minutes – a written record of each meeting – including the wording of each motion and the number of votes for and against each motion. He or she must also read the minutes from previous meetings, write/respond to correspondence pertaining to Student Council business, and publicize all meetings.

Treasurer – 5-8th grade Student

The Secretary/Treasurer is a combined position. The s/t is responsible for keeping the minutes- a written record of each meeting----including the wording of each motion and the number of votes for and against each motion. S/he must also read the minutes from previous meetings. They will keep accurate records of financial reports provided by the district. They also manage the SC calendar for social events. 

Public Relations Director

The PR Director will be the "voice" of the council.  Phone calls and messages to the office, teacher and community members are a few of their vocal duties.  They also write publications for newspapers, make promotional posters, write letters of appreciation, conduct web-searches, coordinate announcements as well as other duties

Class representatives

(7 in total)

Representatives are expected to be a part of every meeting and project.  They will assume responsibility on committees and participate with every activity.

Representatives hold class meetings to listen and discuss classmates' views and share this information at the Student Council meeting.  They make votes in all meetings and attend every Student Council meeting.
